1995年5月，由原河北醫學院、河北中醫學院、石家莊醫學高等專科學校合并組建新的河北醫科大學。2009年11月，石家莊衛生學校并入河北醫科大學。2013年4月，河北中醫學院從河北醫科大學分離，恢復獨立建制。

學校下設14個學院，具備培養學士、碩士、博士及博士后的完整醫學教育體系。

學校有河北醫科大學第一醫院、第二醫院、第三醫院、第四醫院、口腔醫院5所直屬附屬醫院，均為三級甲等綜合性醫院或三級專科醫院。

學校還承辦編輯出版了國家級及省級學術刊物共計9種。

我校是集西醫、中醫、藥學等學科專業為一體的綜合性醫科大學。已成為河北省對外文化、學術交流的一個重要窗口。

2016年7月，我校成為省政府、國家衛計委和教育部共建高校。為學校建設和發展提供了嶄新的平臺。

In May 1995, Hebei Medical College, Hebei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Shijiazhuang Advanced Medical School merged into “Hebei Medical University”.

In November 2009, Shijiazhuang Health School was incorporated into Hebei Medical University.

In April 2013, Hebei University of Chinese Medicine was separated from Hebei Medical University.

Hebei Medical University (HMU) now has 14 schools, educating undergraduate students,  postgraduate students,  PhDs and post-doctoral researchers.

HMU has 5 directly affiliated hospitals, namely, The First Hospital of Hebei Medical University, The Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University, The Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University, The Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University, and Stomatological Hospital, all of which are comprehensive Grade III-A hospitals or specialized Grade III hospitals.

HMU is responsible for editing and publishing 9 state- and province-level journals.

HMU is a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary medical university with various programs such as western medicine, the Traditional Chinese Medicine, and pharmacy. It is now an important platform for international cultural and academic exchanges in Hebei Province.

In July 2016, Hebei Medical University was authorized to be one of the universities co-sponsored by Hebei Province, the National Health and Family Planning Commission and the Ministry of Education, which provides a brand new platform for further development.
